Home pregnancy tests generally won't pick up the pregnancy hormone in the urine until the day your period is due. So there's not much point in doing a home test before then - just a waste of money. Blood tests are more accurate and can pick up the pregnancy hormone at an earlier stage, but to be honest your doctor will probably just tell you to wait and see whether you get your period or not.

Go ahead and take a test if you want to. Most test can read about 1 week before your period. But the best time to take the test is your first pee of the day since your pregnancy hormones are highest. I did this with my 4 pregnancies and I did home test about 1 week before my period and always got positives.
