How do I weather-proof my house in the winter?

I have one of those air conditioners that sit on top of the roof and although I've already covered it up, the house still feels cold. The windows are shut too and cold air comes in through there too. The windows are in good condition so I dont think I need to replace them. What should I do to keep the cold air out? I thought about removing the vent inside the house to the A/C and sealing it with something but im not sure about what I should do. What can I use on my windows? I dont want to shut the permanently to where I wont be able to open them up in the summer, just in the winter.
Your help is much appreciated.

What about the bottom of your doors?
Try sand snakes across the bottom.

You can also buy foam sealing strips that you apply to door and window jams. You install them so that when you close the door or window(swinging type) they squash down n the strip and thus fill any gap that was there.

Taping a piece of cardboard across any AC vent in the roof may also help to keep heat in.

The house will still feel cold unless you heat it. You can reduce the heating costs by insulating walls (blown cellulose?) and ceiling.

Some people "double glaze" by stapling plastic across their windows frames in winter.
