"The good weather prompted significantly more people than ever to try to reach the summit and enter the “death-zone,” many of whom would have turned back at a lower altitude in poorer weather." whats meaning of "turned back" in this context. In fact, i don't understand the meaning of last line.      |

Turn around and go back the way they came from. The people would have stopped, turned around and gone home because of the poor weather but because of the good weather they continued on to the summit.
